The flowchart shown below is a very high-level view of the design process for new construction and does not include the many administrative, engineering and policy related details that are associated with a pavement design.
Finding 50% and 95% reliability design both involves an iterative process in which a specific design is checked to see if it is optimal, which is defined as a design that is able to sustain the design traffic but any further reduction in any layer thickness will not sustain the design traffic.
