PaveM-Tools: Pavement Management Tools

Welcome

Welcome to PaveM Tools. This web application is used to show results generated by PaveM, Caltrans’ pavement management tool, managed by the Office of Pavements.

PaveM

The current version of the PaveM Tools shows data associated with projects: past, current and future (those recommended by PaveM using a specific scenario). It is anticipated that different types of data managed by PaveM will be made available for viewing within the PaveM Tools in the future. The tool that shows project-level data is referred to as “H-Chart”. The concept behind H-Chart dates back to the late 1990s and early 2000s in Districts 8 and 12. It has proven to be very useful for visualizing the time-history of projects for a county-route-direction.

PaveM

PaveM Tools uses files exported from PaveM for its display. There is not a direct connection between the Tools and PaveM, meaning that if data is added or changed in PaveM, such as a new as-built, it will not be reflected in the Tools until new data is exported from PaveM and made available to the Tools. Most of the data that the Tools displays from exported PaveM data is relatively static, i.e., the segmentation of the network system and the construction history.

The projects recommended by PaveM and displayed by the Tools are associated with a specific “scenario”, sometimes referred to as a “work plan”. Scenarios are currently produced by the Office of Pavements for a specific set of parameters, such as budget, time, pavement condition, performance, etc.

PaveM uses the specific set of parameters to make optimized project recommendations over the specified time horizon: these recommended projects are then reviewed by pavement engineers.
